Insomnia

What is insomnia

First identify the problem

There could be many different reasons why you are unable to sleep the amount that is healthy for you to run optimally. The first step is to identify what the cause could be:

  • Circumstances: There something causing you stress or anxiety
  • Lifestyle: There is something in your lifestyle choices that is keeping your body from going into the proper sleep mode. This could include something you are eating or medication you are taking.
  • Health: There may be something with your health, such as hormones or cortisol issues, etc. which is causing sleep disruption.
  • Spiritual: There may be a demonic spirit that is keeping you from sleeping well. If you suspect it may be spiritual, you can sign up for a 1 on 1 prayer call below.
Prayer Call
“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.”

Proverbs 3:24

Health-I am not going to address health issues, as this is out of my realm of expertise, but I can speak on the other issues that may be causing your insomnia. However I will suggest checking out my Healing page.

Circumstances-if circumstances in your life are causing you stress, anxiety or fear, then you will need to learn how to take all of this to the Lord. We can get on a prayer call and talk about it and I can pray for you. You can also visit this page which has more information on fear and anxiety.

Lifestyle-Take an account of your life: What you are consuming, and what you are doing throughout your day.
Make sure to not take in any caffeine including sodas and energy drinks at least 8 hours before you are wanting to sleep.
If medication may be the issue, talk to your doctor about this.
Eat plenty of nutrient rich food throughout your day. You may have deficiencies in your diet which are contributing to your body being off.

Try to be active throughout your day. Implementing activity/exercise every day will help reset your circadian rhythm. I've included my favorite workouts below.

But activity can look like anything; go for a walk, ride a bike, go swimming, join a gym, take the stairs, park further away and walk, dance, take up a sport, etc.
Also, get outside and try to get at least 15 minutes of sunshine every day. Vitamin D deficiency is very common, so make sure to get some good old sunshine right on your skin (but please avoid getting burned). 15 minutes every day will be alright! Plus, all of this helps to reset your body's rhythm.

Before bed: try not to eat right before bed. Eat a couple of hours before and avoid high sugar right before bed.

Try chamomile tea and/or magnesium an hour before bed and try to do activities that will help wind you down, such as reading, playing soft music, etc. When it's time to sleep, try to get the room as dark and quiet as you can. You can even try ear plugs and a sleeping mask to help let your body know it's time to shut down.
"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety."

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
