Financial Difficulties

Financial Difficulties

The first thing you need to understand is that poverty is not a blessing, it is not pious to be impoverished, it is a curse.

You can't be a blessing when you are struggling to pay your bills and wondering where your next meal is coming from.  And you also need to understand that poverty is not God's plan for your life. You can do very little, if anything, for the Kingdom of God when you are in survival mode. You certainly can't obey God in tithes and offerings and caring for the poor when you are in lack.

But many people struggle with a poverty mind set, so we're gonna talk about that.

The other thing is that people love to pull out the verses from the bible where God warns against the snares of riches. So I'll cover that as well. It's just important to understand, that there are both boundaries and spiritual principals when it comes to finances and wealth, that if we just do what God says, we can enjoy the abundant life that Jesus promises us!
"Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, Who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever."

Psalm 112: 1-3

God's Promises for Us!

Most Christians don't know this, but in Deuteronomy 28, God promises Israel that if they walk in His ways, He will bless the work of their hands, open His good treasure in heaven, and cause them to prosper so much that they will lend and not borrow.

These blessings were first tied to the covenant God made with Abraham, where He promised to bless him and his descendants abundantly. But through Christ, Gentile believers are now grafted into that same covenant promise. As Paul wrote in Galatians 3:14, “that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

This means that the promises of abundance, provision, and prosperity in Deuteronomy 28 are not just for Israel of old, but are also available to every believer in Jesus Christ today. God’s heart is not for His children to live in lack, but to walk in His blessing, steward His provision wisely, and be a channel of generosity to others.
"The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it."

Proverbs 10:22
Eye of the needle

But Isn't Money Evil?

Money isn't evil, it's the LOVE of money that is evil. God shall have no other gods before Him, and money is one of the biggest threats to overruling Him as the King of your heart, so of course, He needs to address it.

As soon as money becomes your "god"-you begin to chase money instead of god, you are in a dangerous place.

You are allowed to have possessions, you are not allowed to have your possessions have YOU. If you can't release what God has given to you at any point, it's time to check your heart.

God has many verses that warn against the idol of money. But if you can learn to release it when He says to, then He can entrust you with more. So this leads us to God's spiritual principals to never be in lack.

"Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat and have plenty left, for the LORD has blessed His people; and what is left is this great abundance."

2 Chronicles 31:10

God's Spiritual Laws to Never Be in Lack

When you start lining your finances up with the things that matter to God, God takes notice!

You have to DIE to greediness. There are no misers in the Kingdom of God. God is a lavish generous giver, and He expects His children to be the same!

You are going to have to GIVE your way out of poverty, and walk in obedience to what God says to do.

The Blessing of the Tither
1. Tithing tells God you trust Him. It keeps you in covenant with Him, and it helps the work of the ministry. Give the first 10% of your increase and watch God bless the rest!

"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it." Malachi 3:10

Give to the Poor

2. God has a lot to say about caring for the poor.

"He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses." Proverbs 28:27

"He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given." Proverbs 19:17

If you have been in lack, take a look at when the last time was that you extended your finances to the poor. Even if you barely have any, GIVE, and watch what miracles God pours out into your life!

Sacrificial Giving

3. Those who sow sparingly will reap sparingly, but those who sow generously will reap generously.

Sometimes God will ask you to give a sacrificial seed-you will feel it! It will hurt-but it's because He has a BIG harvest in mind for you! A miraculous harvest! Something that couldn't be achieved otherwise. So listen to when He prompts you to give, and act accordingly and get ready for something massive to come your way!
“So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”

2 Corinthians 9:7

"There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself."

Proverbs 11:24

A Few More Things....

Some people think, that God blesses us only so we can bless other people. And we are to live well below our means, so we can just give everything away-but this is a poverty mind-set that needs to be broken off of us!

One of God's names is El Shaddai, which literally translates to "All Sufficient". Meaning He can provide your needs, even your wants and there is plenty for you to be a generous giver and do great things for His Kingdom, if you will just be obedient, and a good steward of what He has entrusted you with, and believe Him for the more!

He owns all the silver and gold in the world (Haggai 2:8) He owns it all! And He can provide to you any way He wants.

I once heard a story of a man who prayed to God to help him with their high debts. When one day he found a real diamond in his carpet. It was worth so much money. Then he went home and found some more, and paid off all his debts!

While this may not happen to you, God is not limited in getting miracle finances to you.

You also need to understand that GOD is your source of provision, not your job, not your 401K, not your bank account. Your job, your business, however money comes into your hands are channels-not your source. When you start making God your source, then no matter what happens in the world, you wont stress. If you lose your job, or the economy crashes, you understand those things were just the CHANNELS for God (your source) to get the finances to you. So He can use other channels any time. And your source never runs dry when you honor God with your finances and act as a good steward with He has given to you.

Work Hard

So all of this doesn't mean, that you don't work. Whatever you do, do it with excellence and God will bless your work. But don't work for money, do whatever you do as unto the Lord, and He will reward you with money/provisions.

  • Deuteronomy 28:12
"The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow."
  • Deuteronomy 30:9
"The LORD your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your land for good. For the LORD will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers."
  • Proverbs 10:4
"He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich."
  • Proverbs 12:24
"The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor."
  • Proverbs 13:4
"The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich."
